O AUTOR
Joel Santos nasceu em 1978, sendo licenciado
e mestre em Economia. A paixão pela fotografia
desperta em 2003, com génese na macrofotografia a
água e na fotografia de paisagem natural. Em 2004
ruma a Timor-Leste como docente da Universidade de
Economia – uma experiência de três anos que
impulsionaria a sua apetência pelo retrato
espontâneo e pela reportagem de vida quotidiana.
Em 2005 inicia a sua ligação ao mundo editorial,
através da revista FotoDigital, sendo que, em 2007,
após o seu regresso a Portugal, assume, durante três
anos, a direcção da revista O mundo da Fotografia
Digital.
Os seus trabalhos foram distinguidos com alguns dos
mais prestigiados galardões nacionais e
internacionais de fotografia. Participou em
múltiplas exposições em Portugal e no estrangeiro.
Nos últimos seis anos, entre publicações nacionais e
estrangeiras, editou centenas de artigos e imagens,
protagonizando mais de duas dezenas de capas. É
autor do best-seller
Fotografia: Luz, Exposição,
Composição, Equipamento e Dicas para Fotografar em
Portugal, tendo também escrito o livro
Fotografia
Digital com Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. Actualmente,
com a agência de viagens Papa-Léguas, lidera viagens
e workshops fotográficos em Portugal e por todo o
mundo, aliando a vasta experiência como viajante ao
gosto por comunicar e formar.
Como fotógrafo profissional, é representado pela
Aurora Photos, que também distribui os seus
trabalhos na Getty Images e Corbis, sendo as suas
imagens usadas à escala global por empresas como a
Canon Europa, Samsung, IKEA, organizações de turismo
e agências de publicidade, entre outras.

THE AUTHOR
Joel Santos was born in
1978 and has an Honours and Master’s degree in
Economics. His passion for photography began in
2003, with water macrophotography and natural
landscape photography. In 2004, he travelled to East
Timor to become a lecturer at the University of
Economics – a three-year experience that would spark
off his interest in spontaneous portraits and
reporting on everyday life.
In 2005 his ties with the world of publishing began
through the magazine FotoDigital, and, after
returning to Portugal, in 2007 he took over as the
Editor in Chief of the magazine O mundo da
Fotografia Digital (The World of Digital
Photography).
His work has been distinguished with some of the
most prestigious national and international
photography awards. He has participated in several
exhibitions in Portugal and abroad.
In the last six years, between national and foreign
publications, he has published hundreds of articles
and pictures and featured on over twenty front
covers. He is the author of the best-seller
Fotografia: Luz, Exposição, Composição, Equipamento
e Dicas para Fotografar em Portugal
(Photography: Light, Exposure, Composition,
Equipment and Tips for Taking Photographs in
Portugal), and also wrote the book
Fotografia Digital com Adobe Photoshop Lightroom
(Digital Photography with Adobe Photoshop
Lightroom). With the travel agency Papa-Léguas, he
currently leads trips and photography workshops in
Portugal and all over the world, combining his vast
experience as a traveller with his love of
communicating and teaching.
As a professional photographer, he is represented by
Aurora Photos, which also distributes his work at
Getty Images and Corbis. Globally, his pictures are
used by companies such as Canon Europe, Samsung,
IKEA, tourist organisations and publicity agencies,
among others.
